Unit Manager for Naval Technical Intelligence
Do you have several years of experience in a leadership role, as a manager or project leader, within a technical organization and an interest in leading others? Then you might be the one we are looking for. The Technical Intelligence Department is now seeking a unit manager for the naval area. Together with an experienced team, you will have the opportunity to influence work that makes an impact for both the Armed Forces and Sweden – today and in the future.
About the Position
As the unit manager for naval technical intelligence, you will lead and support the unit's work with qualified analyses and studies aimed at increasing understanding of foreign military forces' technical systems, with a particular focus on naval systems. Through present and developmental leadership, you create good conditions for employees to feel involved and engaged, and you drive organizational development together with your team. As a manager, you represent FMV's vision, goals, and values, and you are your employees' most important communication channel. The work also involves planning, prioritizing, executing, and following up on the unit's assignments based on the needs of the Armed Forces and FMV.
In this role, you have operational and employer responsibility as well as financial responsibility, and you ensure that the work is conducted in line with the unit's and department's goals regarding regulations and guidelines. You report to the head of the Technical Intelligence Department and actively participate in the management group's work to coordinate and further develop the organization. You also keep yourself updated on activities within the land and air domains and contribute to knowledge sharing to strengthen the overall perspective, system understanding, and collective competence within the department.
The role involves ongoing dialogue and collaboration with other defense intelligence agencies as well as close cooperation with experts within FMV, the Armed Forces, and other authorities.
The position is based in Stockholm. The work is conducted on-site with limited opportunities for remote work. Business trips are included, both nationally and internationally.
About You
We are looking for someone with a university degree in engineering or a relevant officer education, or other education/competence acquired in another way that FMV deems necessary for the position. You have several years of current experience in a leadership role within a technical organization, with good knowledge of project and operational management. You also have experience in analysis and reporting work. To succeed in this role, you need to have experience in military technical work within the defense sector, preferably in the naval area, and have good knowledge as well as system understanding of naval platforms and systems. The position requires a good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing, as well as a B driver's license.
It is advantageous if you have experience from work within the intelligence community and an established network within FMV and/or other defense authorities. It is also advantageous if you have experience from working in international contexts and in different cultures. Knowledge of other languages, especially Russian, is a plus. We appreciate a good understanding of the importance of technology for military capability and tactical use in a broader context.
Personal qualities are of great importance to us, and we welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. As a manager with us, you lead the organization with clear direction and determination. You ensure that both short-term and long-term goals are achieved through structured work, accountability, and engagement with employees. You build trusting relationships and promote an inclusive, respectful work environment where engagement, community, and diversity are at the center. With stability, courage, and integrity, you take responsibility for decisions and actions, lead with a focus on values, and act confidently even in challenging situations. Through a strategic holistic view, you prioritize and coordinate resources, drive improvements, and strengthen the authority's long-term development and trust.
